The future is upon us and as the population grows housing may have to go another direction with modular homes. Since these type homes can be moved when needed many people can transport their home with them when they decide to make a move because of a job transfer or just wanting to “escape” city living.
With some areas that are overpopulated a modular home may be just the answer to the housing shortgage. This means that with a modular home it can be constructed and moved in less time than a traditional brick or stucco home. A brick home will take more time to build whereas a modular home can be built in a matter of weeks instead of months and transported to the area the homeowner chooses.
Another advantage of deciding on a modular home is that you can add sections or an entire floor in less time than building onto a traditional home. Because a modular home is constructed with screws instead of nails this gives a more secure feeling and makes the home stronger than other methods of construction. Modular homes are another alternative to living in a brick or mobile home and additions can be added.

Most people who think of modular homes probably think of a trailer that will never look like a normal home. That information is not true as modular homes built today can look like any other home that you would build. When you purchase a modular home, you will often be allowed to choose the color of the carpet and paint in the home. This makes the modular more like a home you would build yourself. You can choose the furniture that goes in it as well as the appliances. All of this is done before the home is set up on the property.
Once the modular is placed on the land you have, you can make it even more like a traditional house. Decorate the windows with blinds and colorful curtains. Add a front porch of almost any size so you can sit outside and relax. You can plant flowers around the front of the home and use other outdoor decorations to make it look like a family lives there. An advantage of having a modular home instead of a traditional brick home is that if you decide to move, you can have the modular moved to another piece of land.

Where and how are modular homes assembled? This is a question many home builders may ask when considering which type of home they want to build. Modular homes are not mobile homes because they lack wheels, axles and a frame.

Modular homes are also known as pre-fabricated homes. These homes consist of many different pieces that are assembled in a factory by well-trained, permanent personnel. These homes are fabricated away from the elements and in a controlled environment. This allows for a higher quality product that can be as unique as the homeowner wants. Each section of the pre-fabricated home is then placed on the back of a flat-bed semi via a crane and shipped to the location of the new home. A crane is again used to lift each section from the semi trailer and place it exactly where it is supposed to be on the land.
Modular homes of the past came in only a few varieties and could easily be spotted when driving down a street. Now these homes are so individualized it can’t be determined as easily. These homes do not show any areas where the sections have been joined and can be constructed much faster than an on-site home.

Modular homes take much less time time to build than traditional homes. This type of dwelling is manufactured in sections. The factory usually takes 2-3 weeks to complete one unit. After the factory construction is complete, the sections then have to be put together on the site where the home will be located. This typically takes anywhere between 2-4 weeks. All together, the average modular home can be manufactured and constructed on site within 4 weeks. Homeowners may slow up the process if they decide to make changes to the layout after the sections have been constructed. To cut down on modifications, modular home builders encourage most buyers to look at all layouts, even those that are not within their budget. Depending on how soon you are looking to move into your home, you may be able to have the manufacturer expedite the construction of your unit for an additional fee. Also, selecting a basic model home will ensure that your home is built within the average time span. If your home has various special modifications, the factory could take an additional 3-4 weeks to complete the project. Either way, modular homes are built a lot faster than traditional homes.
